Cultivating careers and increasing diversity in the film Industry for 20 years and counting.

Film Independent’s signature diversity program, Project Involve, is looking for filmmakers from diverse backgrounds and filmmaking tracks to join the 2012-2013 class. Participants will be paired one-on-one with mentors from the film industry, assigned to a team to make a short film incorporating a given theme and attend monthly filmmaking workshops and educational events.

We want to change the face of the industry with fresh, talented filmmakers.

MAMITAS Hits Theaters 4/27

MAMITAS, directed by Japanese American Nick Ozeki and produced by Adam Renehan, will be coming out theatrically on Friday, April 27 in Los Angeles.

The heartwarming feature stars Veronica Diaz-Carranza and E.J. Bonilla, with appearances by Jennifer Esposito and Jesse Garcia.

MAMITAS follows Jordin Juarez, a cocky misguided youth, who forms an unlikely bond with an unpopular girl named Felipa. With her help, Jordin discovers the truth about his family, the meaning and value of true friendship, and what it really means to be a man.

CAPE Presents HANG LOOSE At 28th LAAPFF

CAPE is proud to be the official Community Partner for HANG LOOSE at the 28th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF).

Directed by Ryan Kawamoto, HANG LOOSE follows newly-single Kevin (Kevin Wu, aka KevJumba) on his trip to Hawaii to attend his big sister’s wedding. Upon arriving in Honolulu, he goes out to town with his future brother-in-law Dante (Dante Basco) and his crazy groomsmen. The night quickly goes wrong in so many ways — from altercations in a Chinatown strip club, run-ins with armed gangsters, a drug deal gone bad, and the inevitable run-in with the local crime lord, played by Justin Chon (TWILIGHT; K-TOWN COWBOYS). HANGOVAH, brah? Nahhh, hang loose, brah!

SHANGHAI CALLING Hits The Film Festival Circuit

SHANGHAI CALLING, produced by CAPE Advisor Janet Yang, has been selected as the Closing Night Film for the Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) on May 3rd as well as the Opening Night Film for the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) on May 10th.

SHANGHAI CALLING tells the story of modern-day Americans in an unfamiliar land. An ambitious New York attorney, Sam, is sent to Shanghai on assignment, but he immediately stumbles into a legal mess that could spell the end of his career.

Filmed entirely on location in Shanghai, China, the romantic comedy stars Daniel Henney, Eliza Coupe, Bill Paxton, Geng Le, Zhu Zhu, and Alan Ruck.

LA 18, the leading Asian language television station in Los Angeles, proudly commemorates the sixth anniversary of KABABAYAN LA on April 24, 2012.
