CAPE would like to congratulate member Julie Zhan for recently booking the ABC Diversity Showcase!
Julie was a participant of the CAPE Casting Workshop with ABC in which her acting abilities were recognized. After four rounds of auditions, Julie was able to acquire one of the coveted spots.
Julie’s other notable works include producing the documentary UPLOADED: THE ASIAN AMERICAN MOVEMENT which won an award at this year’s Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. CAPE is thrilled to have played a role in Julie’s career thus far and may she have many more milestones to come!
Established in 2001, the annual ABC showcase identifies and develops ethnically and culturally diverse talent. Previous participants include CAPE Board Member Carrie Ann Inaba.
CAPE Advisor Janet Yang was recently honored with the Asian American Media Award at the 2012 Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF) presented by Asian CineVision (ACV).
Janet was recognized for her achievements as a film producer and her impact on the Asian American community as a cultural ambassador.
She most recently produced SHANGHAI CALLING, a romantic comedy, written and directed by Daniel Hsia. The film was the opening night presentation for AAIFF 2012 and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) as well as the Closing Night Film for the Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF).
The Shanghai-based movie stars Daniel Henney as Sam Chao, an up-and-coming Manhattan attorney who is dispatched to Shanghai to open the firm’s new satellite office. Initially Sam refuses to adapt to local customs and alienates everyone he meets, however, he slowly discovers a new way of looking at the world.
The Asian American Media Award (AAMA) recognizes outstanding achievements and contribution by an individual to Asian American media. Directed by Ryan Kawamoto, HANG LOOSE follows newly-single Kevin (Kevin Wu, aka KevJumba) on his trip to Hawaii to attend his big sister’s wedding. Upon arriving in Honolulu, he goes out to town with his future brother-in-law Dante (Dante Basco) and his crazy groomsmen. SHANGHAI CALLING tells the story of modern-day Americans in an unfamiliar land. An ambitious New York attorney, Sam, is sent to Shanghai on assignment, but he immediately stumbles into a legal mess that could spell the end of his career.
