Dear CAPE members and supporters,
2011 was a very good year for CAPE.
We celebrated 20 years of advancing diversity in media with a star-studded and glamorous 20th Anniversary Gala at Union Station. Check out some of the photos here: http://on.fb.me/usccwg.
We successfully concluded the 11th year of the CAPE New Writers Awards, and will launch a new third category in 2012 for writers from and stories about Hawaii. We continued our wildly popular TV Pitch Lab and Acting Workshops to great success. We saw our writers getting staffed on shows, selling pitches to networks, and having their feature films made. And we introduced more of our acting members to the networks and saw more of them on screen than ever before.
When the Tsunami devastated Japan earlier in the year, the CAPE community rallied together to hold a Japan Relief Fundraiser with the American Red Cross. We also held our first Celebrity Poker Tournament [http://on.fb.me/tG2McP], which was televised. And we had crazy record turnout at our networking mixers.
We relaunched our website and rebranded the organization. We hired Ivy Lee as our assistant, and moved into larger offices to accommodate the expansion of the organization. And we placed two of our office interns at media companies.
Looking to 2012 and our next 20 years, CAPE is thrilled to be launching new digital initiatives to nurture the next generation of digital talent. We also look to expand our already thriving partnerships with the studios and networks. And we are forging new relationships and programs with digital media and non-media companies.
You and your contributions make all of this happen. So before we call it a wrap on 2011, I personally want to thank you for all of your continuing financial and moral support. I hope you are as proud as we are of this year’s accomplishments, which we plan to exceed next year. To gear up for 2012, the office is taking a well-deserved break the last two weeks of December. We look forward to seeing you next year.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, Advisory Board, Jennifer, and Ivy, I want to wish you a healthy, safe, and prosperous holiday season!
