CAPE TV Pitch Lab Nearing Capacity

Do you have a great idea, but don’t understand the development process? Interested in producing your own TV show? Already a writer and looking to perfect your pitch?

CAPE and CBS are proudly offering the two-night signature CAPE TV Pitch Lab once again! The exclusive members-only CAPE event will be held on Feb. 15 and Feb. 29 at 5:30PM for both nights. Catering will be provided by CBS.

The event is almost sold out, so please RSVP online to ensure your spot for this amazing opportunity.

Deadline for RSVPs and/or submissions is Monday, February 6, 2012 at 5PM PST.

CAPE member Teresa Huang attended twice and recently sold a pitch to CBS, thus we encourage CAPE members to repeat the lab.

The first evening on Feb. 15 will feature a panel of industry experts. Panelists will discuss each step of the development process, the pitch calendar, the marketplace, and the journey from script to “pilot pick-up” to “series launch.” A Q&A will follow the panel.

Last year’s panelists included Christina Davis (SVP, Drama Series Development at CBS), Quan Phung (Head of TV at Stuber Pictures; former SVP, Creative Affairs – Comedy at 20th Century Fox), and Lucia Cottone (VP of Series Development and Current Programming at Lifetime Television).

The second evening on Feb. 29 allows select finalists to pitch their projects to industry professionals. The art of the pitch is one of the most difficult to master, whether you are a writer, director, producer, or executive. This is a unique and rare opportunity to hear honest, non-judgmental responses to you and your idea, and we strongly encourage you to apply.

Finalists must attend the first session to be considered. Members interested in pitching must RSVP online and submit a one-sentence logline and a short paragraph (no more than 100 words) description of your scripted idea. Please email submissions to [email protected] with “CAPE TV Pitch Lab: Your full name” in the subject line.

Confirmed attendees will receive an email confirmation no later than Friday, February 10, 2012 with further details regarding location, parking, and the release form.

For more information and submission guidelines, please visit capeusa.org/capetvpitchlab.

Congrats to director Ann Hui!

Congratulations to director Ann Hui on being named the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient at the upcoming 6th Asian Film Awards (AFA)!

Hui’s career began decades ago, as a leading director in the Hong Kong New Wave of the 1970s. Over the course of her career, she has helped establish the emerging Hong Kong identity. Her films gave breakthrough roles to stars, such as Chow Yun-fat and Andy Lau, and often examine issues of alienation and the immigrant experience. As the first female recipient of the AFA award, Hui continues to successfully combine mainstream talent with intellectual depth in her works.

Her latest movie, A SIMPLE LIFE, stars Deanie Ip and Andy Lau. The drama details a master-servant relationship between Ah Tao (Ip) and Roger (Lau), a production-accountant specializing in the movie business. Ah Tao has served Roger’s family for 60 years, but when Ah Tao’s health starts to deteriorate, it is Roger’s turn to do the caretaking.

The 6th Asian Film Awards will take place on March 19, 2012 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Japanese director Yamada Yoji, Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, and Hong Kong producer Raymond Chow Man-wai.

Congrats to Kevin Tsujihara!

Congratulations to Kevin Tsujihara on making The Hollywood Reporter‘s 2012 Digital Power 50 in the How You Watch category!

Tsujihara currently serves as President of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group. In 2011, Tsujihara and his team offered movies such as GREEN LANTERN and HORRIBLE BOSSES online via the rental service UltraViolet.  They also bought the social network Flixster, which allows direct access to consumers.  Warner Bros. is also the first studio to offer movies directly through Facebook.  This led to the development of AIM HIGH–a live-action series that allows viewers to see profile pictures of themselves and friends on the show’s posters and high school lockers.

THR‘s Digital Power 50 is an annual list of the top 50 digital power players in 12 categories, which include Content Titans, How You Watch, How It Gets Out There, Who Pays the Way, How You Connect, Mobile Gaming, How You Make It, Viral Videos, China, Talent Agencies, Music, and Video Games.
