CAPE New Writers Awards Deadline Approaching 5/25

The CAPE New Writers Awards deadline is quickly approaching on Friday, May 25, 2012.

Submissions are being accepted in Feature Film, Television Writing, and Hawaii. The Hawaii category is open to writers originally from Hawaii, currently living in Hawaii, or screenplays/ teleplays set in Hawaii.

Both CAPE and non-CAPE members are welcome to submit. Entrants can also be individuals or teams.

Multiple entries in one or more categories is highly encouraged.

Three (3) winners will each receive a $4,000 cash prize, the latest Final Draft professional scriptwriting software, a staged reading of their winning script, and exclusive meetings with entertainment industry agents, producers, and executives.

Entries must be submitted electronically by Friday, May 25, 2012 11:59PM PST.

For over a decade, the CAPE New Writers Awards has been dedicated to discovering and nurturing Asian Pacific Islander voices and talents. This unique program has helped launch the careers of numerous writers. NBC’s 9th Annual Stand Up For Diversity Auditions

NBC’s 9th Annual Stand Up For Diversity have officially announced their audition dates and locations.

Through this initiative, comedians of diverse backgrounds have been launched to new career milestones. Each year NBC selects 3-5 cities across the country and holds both auditions and live showcases of the top diverse talent from that area. At the end of the search a handful of comedians are brought back to Los Angeles to showcase for key industry players at NBCUniversal and industry-wide. Many of the comics from last year’s Best of Stand-Up for Diversity showcase signed with top Hollywood agents and met with the entertainment industry’s leading casting directors and executives.

MAMITAS Hits Theaters 4/27

MAMITAS, directed by Japanese American Nick Ozeki and produced by Adam Renehan, will be coming out theatrically on Friday, April 27 in Los Angeles.

The heartwarming feature stars Veronica Diaz-Carranza and E.J. Bonilla, with appearances by Jennifer Esposito and Jesse Garcia.

Directed by Ryan Kawamoto, HANG LOOSE follows newly-single Kevin (Kevin Wu, aka KevJumba) on his trip to Hawaii to attend his big sister’s wedding. Upon arriving in Honolulu, he goes out to town with his future brother-in-law Dante (Dante Basco) and his crazy groomsmen. The night quickly goes wrong in so many ways — from altercations in a Chinatown strip club, run-ins with armed gangsters, a drug deal gone bad, and the inevitable run-in with the local crime lord, played by Justin Chon (TWILIGHT; K-TOWN COWBOYS). SHANGHAI CALLING Hits The Film Festival Circuit

SHANGHAI CALLING, produced by CAPE Advisor Janet Yang, has been selected as the Closing Night Film for the Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) on May 3rd as well as the Opening Night Film for the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) on May 10th.

SHANGHAI CALLING tells the story of modern-day Americans in an unfamiliar land. An ambitious New York attorney, Sam, is sent to Shanghai on assignment, but he immediately stumbles into a legal mess that could spell the end of his career.

Tim Kang launched his production company One Shoot Films (OSF) with the focus of getting back to the basics of good storytelling and to produce relevant, engaging, and entertaining films that accurately reflect the world we live in today.

OSF’s first project currently in pre-production is “None Of Them Will Collect My Soul”, a dramatic short film that focuses on the topic of human trafficking, addressing real life crimes of abduction and abuse, and encouraging awareness to the issues of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), an organization Tim is passionate about and has been involved with as the national celebrity spokesman since 2010.
