WHITE FROG To Make North American Release

Wolfe Video has officially acquired all North American rights to WHITE FROG. The film made its world premiere at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival in March. Now the specialty distributor plans to make theatrical, VOD and DVD releases of the film in 2013.

WHITE FROG is a family drama revolving around a high-school freshman with mild Asperger’s syndrome whose life becomes even more challenging when his older brother dies. The film is written by CAPE members Ellie Wen and Fabienne Wen, directed by Quentin Lee and executive produced by CAPE board member Kevin Iwashina and advisor David Henry Hwang. Other notable producers include CAPE advisor Chris Lee, Ellie Wen and Joel Soisson.

The film also features an all star cast including Booboo Stewart, Joan Chen, CAPE advisor BD Wong, Harry Shum Jr., Gregg Sulkin, Kelly Hu and Tyler Posey. Congratulations to the cast and crew for this achievement!

CAPE Advisor David Henry Hwang Wins The Steinberg Award

Congratulations to CAPE Advisor and Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang for recently winning the 2012 Steinberg Award!

David was honored for 32 years of writing satires and dramas that brought Asians and Asian American characters to Broadway and other theatrical stages.

His most notable plays include YELLOW FACE, CHINGLISH and M. BUTTERFLY. David received the $200,000 Steinberg prize, the largest monetary prize in American theater, which allows him to remain a full-time playwright.

The Steinberg Award was created in 2008 and is given every other year to recognize established playwrights with extensive bodies of work. Click here for the full article.

CAPE Congratulates Member Julie Zhan

CAPE would like to congratulate member Julie Zhan for recently booking the ABC Diversity Showcase!

Julie was a participant of the CAPE Casting Workshop with ABC in which her acting abilities were recognized. After four rounds of auditions, Julie was able to acquire one of the coveted spots.

Julie’s other notable works include producing the documentary UPLOADED: THE ASIAN AMERICAN MOVEMENT which won an award at this year’s Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. CAPE is thrilled to have played a role in Julie’s career thus far and may she have many more milestones to come!

Established in 2001, the annual ABC showcase identifies and develops ethnically and culturally diverse talent. Previous participants include CAPE Board Member Carrie Ann Inaba.

CAPE Advisor Ang Lee’s LIFE OF PI To Open New York Film Festival

CAPE Advisor Ang Lee’s upcoming film LIFE OF PI has been selected to open the 2012 New York Film Festival (NYFF) on September 28. Lee is apart of a select group of filmmakers who have had more than one film open NYFF. Lee’s THE ICE STORM was the opening night film in 1997 and CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON was the closing night film for NYFF in 2000.

LIFE OF PI, based on the fantasy adventure novel by Yann Martel, is the story of a young man who survives a disaster at sea. The film will release nationwide on November 21. For the full article on The Hollywood Reporter, click here.

Writers Needed

Voltage Entertainment USA, Inc. (mobile gamemaker) is currently looking for scenario writers for their new mobile game projects to be released in November. In addition, they are planning on launching more than 10 new games after November. The parent company, Voltage, Inc., is one of the leading companies in Japan specializing in romance simulation games for female audiences.

Writers must meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least five years of professional writing experience
  • Strong writing skills in Love Romance genre, especially from a female point of view
  • Need to be able to create multiple story lines
  • Need to be able to write 4000 word chapters
  • Deadline: beginning of October
