Michael Masukawa, a Long Beach native, began his career in entertainment by interning for CAPE Board Member Karen Moy and her group in the Columbia Pictures Story Department. His successive internships were at Red Wagon, Davis Entertainment, and ICM. Upon graduating from UCLA with a History Major and Minor in Film / TV Studies he got a job in the ICM Mailroom where he rose to head of contacts. After a year and a half of agency work, networking, and hustling, Michael is now moving to Bad Robot to work for CAPE Chairman of the Board, Steve Tao. It’s a small town.
In his new position, he will oversee all of FOX’s existing scripted series and manage FOX’s current programming team.

CAPE Board Member Dan Lin will Executive Produce TO MY FUTURE ASSISTANT on FOX. This comedy revolves around the assistants at a large New York law firm who band together as a family to help each other cope with their overbearing bosses. Based on the blog and upcoming book, To My Assistant by Lydia Whitlock.
Sung Kang has been cast in the FOX drama pilot, GANG RELATED. The drama features Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez), a gang member who is tasked with joining the San Francisco Police Department to gain insider information. Kang will play Tae Kim, an Asian gang specialist. He is known for his role in the FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchises, and was recently seen in BULLET TO THE HEAD.
Raza Jaffrey is the first to be cast in ABC’s
drama pilot, GOTHICA. Gothic legends Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, and Dorian Gray have roles in this sexy soap set in present day. Jaffrey has been seen on SMASH and MI5.
Ming-Na has been cast as a series regular on ABC’s new pilot, S.H.I.E.L.D. The show is based on a peacekeeping group found in Marvel comic books and the 2012 hit, THE AVENGERS. Ming-Na is known for her roles in ER, TWO AND A HALF MEN, SGU STARGATE UNIVERSE, and EUREKA. She recently guest starred on NASHVILLE.
Sandrine Holt has been cast in HOSTAGES for
CBS. The drama centers on a successful sugreon (Toni Collette) living in Washington D.C. who is selected to operate on the President of the United States. She is thrust into the middle of a political conspiracy when her family is taken hostage, and it is up to her to save the lives of her husband and children. Holt can be seen on Netflix’s hit series, HOUSE OF CARDS.
Brenda Song has been cast in an untitled comedy for FOX. The comedy features two successful guys in their 30’s whose lives are turned upside down when their nightmare dads decide to move in with them. Song has been seen on ABC’s hit drama, SCANDAL.
Ken Leung has been cast to co-star in NBC’s hour long pilot, AFTER HOURS. The LOST alum will play a flip-flop and shorts- wearing ER surgeon in San Antonio dulled by his time in war. Leung can also be seen in NBC’s DECEPTION, CBS’s PERSON OF INTEREST, and ABC’s ZERO HOUR.
Lisa Takeuchi Cullen is a writer and co-executive producer for CBS’s pilot, THE ORDAINED. The drama channels a
Kennedy-esque family whose son leaves the priesthood to become a lawyer to prevent his politician sister from being assasinated.
Justin Lin partners with Warner Brothers on Patrick Lee’s thriller novel.
The untitled action thriller will be published next winter and features a three-book deal. The series features an ex-special forces operative named Sam Dryden. Warner Bros. has acquired the screen rights and Lin is attached to direct the future films. Lin is wrapping up Fast and the Furious 6, which he directed and produced.

The 65th Annual Writers Guild Awards honors outstanding writing achievements in film, television, radio, new media, and other awards categories. Ko won in the Episodic Comedy category for ABC’s hit show, MODERN FAMILY with her episode titled, “Virgin Territory”. Congrats, Elaine!

Congratulations to CAPE Chairman of the Board Steve Tao, who has joined J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot!
Steve Tao has served on the CAPE Board of Directors for more than 4 years and will continue to lead as Chairman of the Board. He has worked at ABC as a development executive, New Line TV< FremantleMedia North America, Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment, and a Consultant at The CW.
We are thrilled to announce his new position at Bad Robot where he will work in the Television Department. Bad Robot currently has two shows on the air: PERSON OF INTEREST on CBS and REVOLUTION on NBC. Preparations are underway for four pilots: two for FOX (ADULTING and INHUMAN), one for NBC (BELIEVE), and one for The CW (ELECTROPOLIS). Abrams also has two new feature films: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and the upcoming STAR WARS movie. Congrats Steve!
CAPE Board Member Peter Cayetano McHugh Signs The Director of Oscar-Nominated Short, HEAD OVER HEELS
CAPE Board Member Peter Cayetano McHugh is a manager at The Gotham Group and has recently signed Timothy Reckhart. Reckhart is the director of Oscar-nominated short, HEAD OVER HEELS.
Timothy Reckhart, a 26-year-old native of Tuscon, Arizona, is the creative genius behind the only student film in Oscar contention this year. HEAD OVER HEELS features a married couple and their very unique living situation. The husband lives on the floor and the wife lives on the ceiling, which sets the stage for a multitude of marital miscommunication.
The 11-minute short film has garnered over 100,000 views since being posted on YouTube last week. This enchanting short film tells the timeless story of love and the great lengths we must go to in order to keep that love alive.
