Congratulations to Ted Chiang for his science-fiction short story, “Story of Your Life” being adapted into a sci-fi thriller and purchased by Paramount for the North America and China distribution rights. The film stars Amy Adams, playing a linguist recruited by the military to translate invading aliens.
CAPE congratulates Maggie Q on the pick-up of her new CBS drama series “Stalker”. She stars in the series with Dylan McDermott in a dark drama about a police woman who follows serial killers, but may share in some of the same characteristics.

The remake of Stephen King‘s IT is being produced by CAPE Board Member Dan Lin and principal at Vertigo Entertainment Roy Lee, and has moved from Warner Bros. to New Line Cinema. The new version was in the works for the last five years, and will continue with New Line’s SVP of Production Walter Hamada. The two-film story follows a group of children called The Losers Club, who defeat a creature called IT, but are summoned back to finish the job years later.
Congratulations to 2013 CAPE New Writers Fellow Tristan Thai for his script, “Blood Ties”, being named Top Drama in the 2014 Launch Pad Pilots Competition. The story is about two men, one the favored son of a Chicago Crime Family and the other a second generation Chicago police officer, whose lives get thrown into chaos when they discover they were intentionally switched at birth.
Congratulations to 2014 CAPE New Writers Fellow Christopher Wu for his new position as script coordinator on “Bosch”, a series about an LAPD homicide detective works to solve the murder of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court for the murder of a serial killer. Amazon Studios ordered a full season of the police procedural television show to appear on Amazon Prime.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Los Angeles Film Festival will run from June 11-19 at L.A. LIVE. CAPE is partnering with the LAFF to screen MAN FROM RENO, a film in which a Japanese crime novelist in San Francisco, is unsure of precisely what role she has to play in a real-life murder mystery. The Los Angeles Film Festival will be showing Academy Award-winning film CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON as part of a Spirit of Independence Award to Tom Bernard and Michael Barker for 20 years at Sony Pictures Classics. The martial arts classic features two warriors in pursuit of a stolen sword and a notorious fugitive are led to an impetuous, physically skilled, adolescent nobleman’s daughter, who is at a crossroads in her life. James Schamus, screenwriter and Executive Producer of the international success, will be attending this special event on Monday, June 16, 2014.
