CAPE and Warner Bros. present to you the 2014 CAPE Feature Panel. This panel is an educational event that will explain the process of pitching a feature film to mainstream studios, buyers, agents, financiers — basically anyone who needs to hear a pitch. CAPE Board Member Dan Lin will be moderating a panel of experts, who will provide insights on how the group should pitch their stories in a succinct and entertaining way. This year we are including mock pitches – exciting!

Film Independent is accepting applications to the 2015 Directing Lab! Designed to help directors who are prepping their feature films, the Directing Lab is an intensive eight-week program that runs in Los Angeles each winter in which Lab Fellows workshop scenes from their features. The AFI Directing Workshop for Women (DWW) at the American Film Institute is a hands-on training program committed to increasing the number of women working professionally in screen directing. Selected women will receive guided instruction and produce a project – either a short film or series for the web or streaming services. DWW is open to women with three years or more of professional experience in the arts. The program is tuition-free though participants are responsible for raising the budgets for their projects.

Applications are open, and the deadline is January 7th, 2015.

The 2014 California Asian Business Summit was held in San Francisco and the evening commenced with Mayor Edwin Lee.

Management, Inc., Q-Architecture, and Asian Inc.

CAPE Advisor Ang Lee to Direct BILLY LYNN’S LONG HALFTIME WALK

Ang Lee headshotCAPE Advisor Ang Lee‘s next project will be an adaptation of Ben Fountain’s novel BILLY LYNN’S LONG HALFTIME WALK. This film will reunite Lee with Tom Rothman at TriStar. Rothman ran Fox and worked closely with Lee on LIFE OF PI, the difficult, groundbreaking, Oscar-winning 3D film that grossed $600 million worldwide.

The story is about a 19-year-old soldier, Billy Lynn, whose squad survived an Iraq battle that was captured on embedded news cameras and made them instant heroes. The U.S. brings home the squad for a promo tour and they are scheduled to return to battle after the tour ends at a halftime show of a Thanksgiving Day football game in Texas. The movie will show flashbacks of what Billy and his platoon mates went through.

Ayaz is the marketing brand lead for theatrical releases from Disney Live Action, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm. He ran the global campaigns for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and MALEFICENT.

Ayaz has also participated as a panelist for the CAPE Executive Panel Sponsored by The Walt Disney Company.
