CAPE Advisor and Executive Producer Janet Yang spoke at a panel of a screening of her upcoming film, DOCUMENTED by Jose Antonio Vargas, in Washington D.C.’s Newseum. The documentary chronicles Vargas‘ uniquely American journey as an undocumented immigrant and his fight to overhaul the current U.S. immigration system. Yang‘s dedication to the cause is evident in her support of Vargas and his voice.
Executive producing alongside Yang include Kevin Iwashina, CAPE Board Chair, Sean Parker, Matthew HIltzik, Liz Simons, and Scott Budnick.
DOCUMENTED is screening at the Museum of Tolerance on May 7th at 7:00 PM.

Congratulations to Laverne McKinnon, now the Head of Television at Charlize Theron‘s Denver & Delilah Films. The studio is responsible for “Hatfields & McCoys” and upcoming film, DARK PLACES starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Christina Hendricks.
McKinnon previously founded and served as CEO of Shibui Entertainment, and is a former CAPE Board Chair. She was also the EVP of Original Programming and Development at EPIX and Head of Drama Development for CBS.
Congratulations to Quan Phung on joining Slingshot Global Media as President of Scripted Television. He will oversee development and production of comedy, drama series and limited-run event series for the U.S. and straight-to-series projects on the global scale. Phung previously served as the President of Bluegrass Television, and as SVP of Creative Affairs-Comedy for 20th Century Fox TV.
Phung developed primetime shows such as “How I Met Your Mother”, “My Name is Earl”, and “Arrested Development”.
Congratulations to FAST AND FURIOUS director Justin Lin on his Script-To-Series deal with WGN America for “Radiant Doors”, a drama series exploring how society changes after refugees from the dystopian future suddenly appear. Teaming with Gaumont International Television, Lin will be both directing and executive producing the series.
Congratulations to Lisa Ling on her own new, original series as part of CNN’s new primetime lineup offering both live, breaking news as well as quality, original series/documentaries. Ling‘s documentary series will unveil the unusual and bizarre subcultures across the United States.
Ling is best known for her work as a special correspondent for “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and host of her show “Our America with Lisa Ling”.
Congratulations to YouTube sensation, Freddie Wong, for partnering with Lionsgate Entertainment in a multi-year film, television and digital content alliance. Wong‘s company, RocketJump Studios will be able to utilize Lionsgate’s marketing and distribution power, while the studio gains entree to 6.8 million YouTube subscribers and his filmmaking talent.
Wong is well-known for his original web series, “Video Game High School” and his heavy involvement in multiple YouTube channels such as “RocketJump”, “BrandonJLa” and “Node”.
Congratulations to CNWF mentor and producer Jason Brown for “The Expanse” being picked up by Syfy. He and Sean Daniel of the Sean Daniel Company, both developed the original pitch, and will be executive producers. Syfy has put in a 10-episode straight-to-series order from Alcon Television Group and Academy Award-nominated screenwriting duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby.
“The Expanse” is a space opera thriller set 200 years in the future, following the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.

Alex Chan was previously the Director, User Interface/User Experience at Spin Media, managing a team that headed a portfolio of 20 owned and operated sites. The team redesigned properties with a mobile-first approach. He is now the Director, Front End Engineering at Myspace.
Gregory Chou was most recently the Chief Operating Officer at Film Engine, working in full-service production, management and development of motion pictures, television, and digital content. He spent several years as an Agent at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and focused on the packaging and financing of feature films. He is now the Managing Partner at Caspian Media Capital.
DanTram Nguyen was the Director, Production at Fox Searchlight, credited on films such as BLACK SWAN, 127 HOURS, and THE DESCENDENDANTS. Nguyen has worked under big-name women in production such as Debbie Liebling and President of Production Claudia Lewis. She is now the Vice President, Production at Fox Searchlight.

Listing: A supernatural SAG short film, directed by USC film program graduate, is looking for Asian males (preferably Chinese) 45+ to audition for lead and supporting parts. Synopsis: A tough Chinese waitress who spends her nights fighting demons suspects that a rival coworker at the family restaurant is a demon whose next victim is her favorite customer and crush.
