KCRW’s World Fesitval – Apl.de.ap Takes You to the Philippines

CAPE members are invited to KCRW’s World Festival: Apl.de.ap Takes You to the Philippines – A Celebration of Global Filipino Music.

Join Black Eyed Peas rapper and DJ Apl.de.ap for the Hollywood Bowl’s first-ever celebration dedicated to Filipino music and culture. The concert will showcase the rich history and influence of Filipino music, from its origins to the present featuring artists like Nicole Scherzinger, Martin Nievera, Sandwich, Jeremy Passion, and many more.

The show will be co-hosted by CAPE Advisor Lou Diamond Phillips, Jo Koy, and Vanessa Hudgens.

CAPE Special to Dis/orient/ed Comedy Show

CAPE is proud to be a community sponsor for “Dis/orient/ed Comedy.”

The kickoff event will showcase the funny and powerful voices of Asian American standup comediennes. All Asian. All Female. All Funny.

The show will be at the historic David Henry Hwang Theater in Little Tokyo on Saturday, July 14th, 2012. Doors open at 8pm with a 7pm happy hour and community mixer out in the courtyard.

A portion of the show proceeds will benefit the California Healthy Nail Salons Collaborative.

CNWA 2011 Finalist Thomas Wong Named Inaugural FOX Writers Intensive Fellow

Among the 10 Fox Writers Intensive (FWI) finalists, Thomas Wong has been named the first FWI Fellow for his script, QUEEN.

Thomas became involved with CAPE after placing as a CAPE New Writers Awards 2011 TV finalist with writing partner Sarah Kuhn for their script titled RICE BALLS. He continued taking full advantage of CAPE programs and networking events, allowing him to be nominated as one of CAPE’s candidates for the Fox Writers Intensive.

Tom, we applaud you — not only for being selected as the inaugural FWI Fellow, but also for being a role model to our aspiring writers.

CAPE New Writers Awards Deadline Friday 6/29

The 12th Annual CAPE New Writers Awards (CNWA) deadline is quickly approaching on Friday, June 29!

CAPE writers – be sure to submit your scripts electronically to [email protected] by Friday, June 29, 2012 11:59pm PST.

This program is open to both CAPE and non-CAPE members and we’re accepting individual and team submissions.

One winner will be selected from each of the three categories, which are Features, Television, and Hawaii.

Winners will receive a $4,000 cash prize, the latest Final Draft professional scriptwriting software, a staged reading of the winning script, and exclusive meetings with entertainment industry agents, producers, and executives.

The CAPE New Writers Awards has been dedicated to discovering and nurturing Asian Pacific Islander voices and talents for over a decade. This signature CAPE program has launched the careers of numerous writers including Aaron Ho (COUGAR TOWN, AUSTIN & ALLY), Alice Wu (SAVING FACE), Christina Choe (I AM JOHN WAYNE), Jaffar Mahmood (SHADES OF RAY), Ken Cheng (WILFRED), Leonard Chang (AWAKE), Thomas Wong (Fox Writer’s Intensive Fellow), Randall Park (THE ERASISTS), and many more!

CAPE Casting Workshop With Lindsay Jameyson Call for Entries

CAPE Actors – we have another exclusive workshop for you with Lindsay Jameyson (Head Associate, Jennifer Cooper Casting)!

She’s been the casting associate for hit shows such as HAWAII FIVE-0 and CSI: NY.

This workshop will give you immediate feedback about your performance to help you book future jobs. You’ll also gain insight from an industry professional on how to stand out to major networks and studios.

I AM JOHN WAYNE by CAPE New Writers Awards 2007 Features Winner Christina Choe has been selected to screen at this year’s Los Angeles Film Festival.

Christina Choe is an award winning filmmaker. Her first feature script, “Performance Art” was selected as the winner of the 2007 CAPE New Writers Award for Best Feature Screenplay, IFP Week Emerging Narrative Program, and placed in the top 20 (out of 2700 scripts) for the 2008 Bluecat Screenwriting Competition.

Her narrative shorts, “The Queen”, “FLOW”, and “I am John Wayne” have been selected for Telluride, Slamdance (Grand Jury Prize for best short), SXSW, Los Angeles Film Festival, and Aspen ShortsFest. In 2012, she participated in the Berlinale Talent Campus and received an M.F.A from Columbia University. She is currently in pre-production for her first feature.

CAPE Presents An Evening With Carrie Ann Inaba was held on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Japanese American National Museum. Special thanks to our sponsor Verizon and volunteers for helping make the event possible.

The intimate presentation showcased newest CAPE Board Member Carrie Ann Inaba, as interviewed by CAPE Founder and Co-Chairperson Wenda Fong. Carrie Ann shared her life story and path to success, while offering perspective and inspiration to CAPE members and the Asian American Pacific Islander community.

The evening also marked the launch of CAPE’s I AM Campaign, sponsored thus far by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
