CARLOS ANDERSON (TV Fellow) was born on a tiny island in the South Pacific called Guam and went to college in North Carolina. With no plans and no contacts, Carlos drove cross country to Los Angeles  and lived out of his car for a year while serving subpoenas.

 

JANE MCLEAN (TV Fellow) is an actor turned screenwriter. Born in the Philippines to a working-class family, she immigrated to Toronto when she was an infant. She started out in financial services, but quit to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. As an actor, Jane has starred in over two dozen international film and television productions. Since making the leap into screenwriting she has won and placed in some of Hollywood’s most coveted writing fellowships, and has sold her first series to an international broadcaster. Her current line up of writing projects includes a slate of features for Canadian-European co-production, plus a dark comedy series for The Komack Company.

KEN KOBAYASHI (TV Fellow),  after graduating from the University of Michigan, moved to Tokyo where his experience working on the trading floor of an investment bank led him to write and direct his first short film. In 2013, he was accepted to USC’s MFA program where he was awarded the Jack Oakie Feller Fellowship to help build the school’s burgeoning comedy department. He currently works for Amazon Japan’s in-house creative agency as a commercial director where he has spearheaded several campaigns while building up the company’s internal production capabilities. He splits his time between Los Angeles and Tokyo.

 

MEERA SIMHAN (TV Fellow) is a writer and actor. She was born in England and raised in India and Southern California. As an actress she has had numerous roles in films, television and theater and she wrote and toured her one woman show Miss India America. Meera and her writing partner Ravi Kapoor were CAPE New Writer’s Fellows in 2016. She and Kapoor, co-wrote the screenplay Miss India America and an original half hour pilot In Transit. Miss India America won Best Screenplay at the VC Film Festival and the film won the Jury Prize at CAAMFest. Meera is currently working on an original screenplay exploring three generations of an Indian family who come together at a destination wedding in Cancun.

 

RAVI KAPOOR (TV Fellow) is a Los Angeles based writer/director/actor. He directed and co-wrote the coming of age comedy feature MISS INDIA AMERICA (currently available on Netflix worldwide), starring Tiya Sircar and Hannah Simone. He also wrote and directed a number of award winning short films. His verse play OH SWEET SITA was produced in both London and Toronto, and his play O!EDIPUS at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Among his many acting credits he was a series regular actor on the shows GIDEON’S CROSSING (ABC) and CROSSING JORDAN (NBC) for which he also directed. He was born and raised in Liverpool, U.K.
