CAPE CELEBRATES 35 YEARS.
For 35 years, CAPE has paved the way for advancing Asian and Pacific Islander (API) representation in film, television, and media. What began as a collective transformed into a grassroots movement to challenge invisibility has evolved into a nationally recognized organization building sustainable pathways for storytellers, executives, and creatives to thrive in the industry.
CAPE’s 35th anniversary arrives on the cusp of rapid industry transformation. As new technologies and shifting global priorities upend the entertainment industry year after year, CAPE remains committed to expanding opportunity, strengthening pathways to leadership, and building an equitable future where authentic API stories can take center stage.
Taking place once every 5 years (with the exception of the 30th due to COVID-15 pandemic), CAPE’s 35th Anniversary Gala not only celebrates our history, but also serves as a fundraiser to support sustaining our work as a media arts non-profit organization.
We’ve spent 35 years uplifting storytellers and now, CAPE is here to tell our story.
GALA PHOTO RECAP
THAT’S A WRAP on the CAPE 35th Anniversary Gala. We’re grateful to everyone for making our gala and fundraiser possible. Note only did we tell our story and not only was it a beautiful night with equally beautiful (and hilarious) speeches from our honorees and presenters, CAPE succeeded in making our evening’s fundraising goal, surpassing $350K (with the giving moment led by our hilarious host Asif Ali with actor Saagar Shaikh (doubling as a Deli Boys reunion!) Learn more about the honorees, featured music artists and more below.
“In this time of industry contraction and budgetary cuts, we are excited to have a moment to celebrate the achievements of our community both behind and in front of the camera. For our 35th Anniversary, we focused on telling CAPE’s story: the history of the organization, the growth of our industry-leading programs, and the support we’ve received from our community.” - Michelle K. Sugihara, Executive Director and CEO of CAPE.
Thank you also to our gala stewardship committee: Albert Cheng, Bill Imada, Cindy Y. Huang, Julia S. Gouw, Naia Cucukov Richards, Nina Yang Bongiovi, Priscilla Lim, Russ Riggins, Sam Srinivasan, Sanjay Sharma, and Vivian Donohue.
And while the gala may be over, the memories remained, captured through photos,
