Leo Chu is an award-winning Writer, Creator, and Showrunner of live-action family series and kick-ass animé, which he writes and produces with his partner Eric S. Garcia.

Leo is currently the Showrunner, Executive Producer, and Developer of the new live-action action-comedy series ULTRA VIOLET & BLACK SCORPION for Disney. The show premieres summer 2022 and will feature Disney’s first Latinx superheroes and be the first Latinx superhero series on US television.

Previously, he was writing and producing two series for Netflix, including the acclaimed YA cancer dramedy ALEXA & KATIE starring Paris Berelc, Isabel May, and Tiffani Thiessen, for which he was nominated for two Emmys and a WGA Award. He was also the Creator, Showrunner, and Executive Producer of the Emmy-winning live-action series SUPAH NINJAS starring George Takei and Randall Park, which won him a WGA Award.

On the animé front, Leo is the Showrunner and Executive Producer of the action series AFRO SAMURAI and its sequel AFRO SAMURAI: RESURRECTION starring Samuel L. Jackson and Lucy Liu for Spike/Viacom. The show made history as the first animé to ever win a Primetime Emmy Award. He is also the Screenwriter and Producer of the spectacular animé film BATMAN NINJA for Warner Bros. and the Screenwriter of the adaptation of MY NEIGHBORS THE YAMADAS for Disney/Studio Ghibli. He has the remarkable fortune of working with legendary director Hayao Miyazaki as a Story Consultant on his Oscar-winning masterpiece SPIRITED AWAY, also for Disney/Studio Ghibli.

Leo is a proud alum of the acclaimed WGA Showrunner Training Program and is very involved in the WGA’s diversity and inclusion efforts. He is a founding member of the Guild’s Inclusion & Equity Group and sits on the advisory council for the new Leadership Training Program. He also sits on the Advisory Council for the non-profit CAPE, where he founded and co-chairs its New Writers Fellowship which has become one of the most successful writing programs in the industry. He has been invited to speak at numerous universities including Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, USC, and the University of Hawaii as well as the WGA and PGA.
