CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) is teaming up with the JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), a Japanese government organization, for the launch of the Beyond JAPAN -FILMMAKER- program to support rising directors and producers from Japan for potential expansion into Hollywood leading to international success. The Beyond JAPAN -FILMMAKER- program is backed by the Japanese government as part of their commitment to bolster Japanese films and TV series to the global market.
This inaugural initiative begins virtually in October before transitioning into in-person sessions in Hollywood. Co-facilitated with CAPE, Plug and Play and JETRO, the first-of-its-kind program is taught in English and designed to nurture aspiring international filmmakers who will drive the next generation of innovation and contribute to Japan’s growth strategy. Designed to provide necessary input needed for global expansion while simultaneously offering output catered to industry needs, cohort members receive mentorship and networking opportunities both from Japanese and U.S. professionals combined with seminars and sessions led by industry heavyweights in Hollywood.
The Beyond JAPAN -FILMMAKER- program Director/Producer cohort was selected in part by a committee of veteran directors, actors, screenwriters and producers both from Hollywood and the Japanese film industry, many whome have worked on films like the Palme d'Or-winning SHOPLIFTERS, MONSTER, LOST IN TRANSLATION, OH!
