CINDY CHU

Cindy Chu is a Taiwanese American writer from an immigrant working-class family in Queens, NY. Her stories center social conscious topics with Asian American female-led characters in horror and supernatural genres.

Growing up, she didn’t have a strong relationship with her parents. She bonded with her non-English speaking mother through watching horror films like Nightmare on Elm street where language wasn’t a barrier. As a kid, when her baby teeth would fall out, instead of saying the Tooth Fairy put a dollar under her pillow, Cindy’s mother would say it was Freddy Kreuger.

This grew Cindy’s love for genre and eventually received her MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School. However, she wanted to create stories and characters that were more authentic to Asian American experiences and turned to writing. She is currently a writers’ PA on the Amazon/Sony series, Silk: Spider Society, and repped by 3 Arts Entertainment and RBEL Agency.
