The images and stories we see on screen directly impact how we are treated in real life. When you dehumanize someone, it is easier to mistreat them. When our communities are repeatedly stereotyped as submissive, weak, and hypersexualized, among other things, it leads to very real consequences of violence against Asians, making representation in media one of the most urgent social justice issues of our time.

In this moment of rising violence against Asians, CAPE provides this resource to encourage people to directly support long-term safety in local communities by supporting community-based, abolition-based organizations who are and have been doing the work, cross-culturally and cross-racially, on the ground.

We HIGHLY encourage direct donations to THESE VETTED community-based organizations.

To that end, here is a preliminary list of community-based organizations with a track record of working in solidarity with other communities of color.
These are not exhaustive lists, and we will continue to update these pages and information as needed.

GoFundMe’s Support the AAPI Community Fund aims to address the urgent issues that face the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities as well as broader, systemic problems. With the donations received through the Fund, GoFundMe.org will issue grants to trusted Asian American and Pacific Islander non-profit organizations working to rectify the racial inequalities in our society.

Donations will support non-profit organizations that empower and uplift the AAPI community, with initiatives such as increased community safety and support for those affected by violence.

CAPE is proud to be part of the cross-sectional advisory group of Asian American and Pacific Islander advocacy and activist leaders that are reviewing organizations to determine which ones will receive grants from the AAPI Community Fund. At this stage, the focus is on grassroots organizations, including, but not limited to organizations listed here.

In response to the rise in Anti-Asian/American and xenophobic harassment, Right To Be has partnered with Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC to adapt their free bystander intervention training as well as offering a de-escalation training adapted to support the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. To meet this moment and offer trainings to communities nation wide, we are now also partnered with Asian American Advancing Justice| Asian Law CaucusAsian Americans Advancing Justice Los Angeles, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice Chicago.

Unfortunately, anti-Asian and Asian American racism and xenophobia is not a new phenomenon. It has been part of American history for a long time, and we have seen it manifested against different Asian/American and Pacific Islander communities in many ways over the years. As the coronavirus pandemic escalates, we have seen more harassment, discrimination, and even violence directed at these communities.

In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate coalition on March 19, 2020. The coalition tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
